People are angry with their dad because of 3 main reasons.
- Absence – Neglect where Little or No time was/is spent with the child(ren)
2. Money – Lack of Financial Support, or not enough money offered to help raise the child(ren)
3. Abuse – Verbal, Physical or Sexual abuse of the child, siblings or their mother.
There are of course other reasons why a child resents a father – such a the dad throwing a favourite teddy bear in the bin, or not showing up for a performance.
Anger need not be permanent. Former enemies can become the best of friends. It may take apologies, confessions, tears and hugs. Continued anger will cause more problems. Everytime someone talks about their dad, pangs of pain will hit the person harbouring resentment. When a Father’s day comes around, denial will be the name of the game.
Anger should not be minimised. It can last for years, and prevent true happiness. It can also be internalised to the point of affecting the health. Anger and distress weakens the heart and raises blood pressure. Continued stress affects our bodies more than we realise. Let it Go.
